Meet Kathi
I came from humble beginnings and fell under the definition of an underserved student. Despite not having a traditional childhood, and being a single mother for 13 years, it motivated me to seek and achieve a successful business career. I was the first in my family to obtain my Bachelor's Degree.

In 2021 I retired from a successful 26-year business career specializing in Regulatory, Compliance, Contract Negotiations/Management, Project Management, and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt/Data Analytics. I was also selected to be part of the Rising Latinos Leadership Program provided by SMU COX School of Business due to my high performance and leadership.

Shortly after retirement, I began substituting while caring for my aging father, who unfortunately passed away a few Sundays ago. Needless to say, my plate was full.
Ultimately, I have a passion for kids and for them to reach academic excellence. I believe in paying it forward because the teachers I had growing up inspired me to reach for my dreams. That is what I do when I interact with these kids. I challenge them by sometimes saying “Don’t you want to see what happens if you don’t give up”? I normally substitute JR/HS and seek out OCS assignments. I do that to understand their story on why they are in On Campus Suspension and take that opportunity to encourage them.
